8.19.20 Update

11 Spots!
We just added an 11th station at the gym to help us accommodate as many members as we can while maintaining distancing and also providing each athlete with their own setup (rig / weights / etc.).   So starting tomorrow you will see 11 spots in class and in Wodify.  There are some strings attached, for the time being (we are anxiously awaiting a Rogue shipment) please be flexible and understand that not every station will have everything you need every class… an obvious example is that we have 19 total machines (but only 9 bikes and 9 rowers).  This just means that you may be asked to run or row instead of bike or vice versa.   While we wait for wall ball targets we may even ask you to do thrusters instead of wall balls (oh my).  We’re still going to get our fitness on, so don’t stress.  Going forward in Wodify we will identify (as needed) a prescribed substitute for the 2 stations that need one.  Remember that each workout has an intended stimulus, it’s not as simple as swapping in a bike or a run because we don’t have a rower… Wodify will have the prescribed (Rx) alternative for two stations and then as always our coaches will help athletes scale and modify as necessary.  If you view tomorrow’s WOD you can see that 9 stations will row 50/40 cals and 2 stations will Run 800/600 which matches the intended stimulus.  The idea here is that we can have a standard prescribed workout for the day for all 11 athletes in class.

Gym Culture and Courtesy:
We’ve got an amazing culture at the gym, it’s what makes it such a fun place to workout and to push each other in a positive way.  We all need to continue building camaraderie as we grow and as new members come into the gym.  So let’s be courteous and have fun while keeping some basic house rules in mind:

  • Introduce yourself to a new face in class.

  • Remember that Wodify opens 24 hours in advance of class.

  • Remember that spots are limited and if you cancel last minute it could very well mean that someone else who really needed a workout and who could’ve otherwise attended misses out.  Do your best to cancel when you know you can’t make it and do so as early as possible.

  • Lanes inside the gym are first come first serve, do not try to take over a spot or make another athlete feel uncomfortable if they are in a spot that you wanted.

  • Follow our Covid protocols and wear a mask into your lane.

  • Clean up after yourself.

  • Treat the barbells (and all equipment) with kindness, please don’t drop them without weights and also try not to drop them on the ground when unloading plates (that sound makes me cringe every time).

The Leaderboard aka Whiteboard:
Over the last 7-8 months we made a conscious effort to get away from a “leaderboard culture” at the gym.   We used to ask for scores at the end of every class and our coaches would spend the last 5 minutes of each session entering weights and times for everyone in class.  We realized that asking for and entering scores was not aligned with what we were really trying to provide our members with, which was the best hour of their day.   Yes, tracking weights and scores can be super valuable but the main goal is to come to the gym, work hard, sweat, have fun and get your butt kicked by a great workout.   If you want to track your scores that is great, Wodify is an excellent tool for benchmarking and tracking progress.   If you just want to come to class and feel good about yourself after a tough workout without entering scores daily - that works too!    New

Mobility Programming:
Each week we will be sending you an email with the weekly mobility focus and then 4 coaching videos to guide you through the sessions.  This is an awesome resource that we are able to offer via our partnership with the NCFIT Collective.
