May Committed Club and June Programming

Summer is my season, y’all. The sunshine. Late night hangouts with friends. Warm air that feels like a light blanket as you sit around a fire. Sounds of life all around you, even when you can’t see it. It’s perfection, in my opinion. But, summer also brings an element of challenge, as it tempts us with indulgence. Summer can pull us into a nasty cycle of having fun, regretting the fact that we enjoyed life, and then thinking we need to overcompensate with longer amounts of exercise. Be honest: How many of you read that and went “Yepppp, that’s me!” ? It doesn’t have to be like this, Crew.

In May, I reflected on the fact that staying committed is one thing; being committed to continuous improvement is a level up. There are ways we can rearrange our mindsets to help us accomplish what we want. I entered May with this mindset, and it paid off. I listened to the coaching I got around my Olympic lifts, and celebrated my attention to feedback. I continued to gravitate towards the movements that are a weakness, and celebrated my disposition towards those movements. I’ve been proactive with my mobility work, and have celebrated how I’ve helped my body recover . And now, as I look ahead to June, I know that my power and ability to rearrange the words I say to myself will only help to keep the goals I’ve set in reach. Becoming better is about one big habit…consistency; consistency in your work ethic, consistency in your mindset, and consistency in your reflection and goal setting.

June Programming is going to bring a lot of excitement into our gym, as we will get to retest our lifts at the end of the month…stay strong, trust the process, and get excited for progress and gains! We will continue to have two abs finishers throughout the month along with some new benchmarks that will bring us challenge. For example, you’ll start to see 1 Open Workout a week, which will help us get back in touch with that inner fire needed for ultimate Open performance! We will also see our first test of Ripcord and The Filthy 50, so be sure to record your scores once you complete those workouts, because we will see them again!

We will begin to see one gymnastics skill day that will focus on the Strict and Kipping Pull-Up. We will work various skills and drills to help grow proficiency or help us get closer to that first rep! While we will still see the higher skills version of the Pull-Up, like Chest to Bar and Muscle Ups, its important to remember that the basic mechanics matter, regardless of how skilled of an athlete you are. Finally, we will see some barbell complexes sprinkled in, so fear not, we will all get our barbell fix! June is going to be….well, awesome.

When you read through the programming focus, what excites you? What worries you? How can you rearrange the mindset you hold? Be open to growth. Be open to always getting better. And as always, be committed to consistency. Between habits and attitudes, I can’t wait to see how you surprise yourselves!
