September Programming Focus
Important Gym Updates for September (technically starting 8/31):
Since reopening in June we’ve really focused on building back basic strength and easing back into the routine. We are excited to announce that starting 8/31 classes will start to push closer to 55 minutes in length. This will allow us to introduce some more diversity (remember Thrusters and HSPU?) as well as some longer time domains into our workouts.
That being said, we need to stay vigilant with our COVID protocols. We’ve done a great job so far, to allow for longer classes we need you to help us in a few ways:
Be ready to roll at the start of class, we will have more work to get through in each session
“Sign In” to class via the Wodify App. This prevents our coaches from needing to do this for you during class. You can hit sign in on the Wodify App once you are registered for a class.
Enter the gym 5 minutes before class at the earliest, with a mask on. Do not enter someone else’s square until they have finished cleaning and left their station.
Continue to clean everything you touch after class. If you are bringing chalk please clean it up.
Try not linger in your spot after class. We need your help with class turnover, especially the morning and evenings where we have multiple classes back to back.
Please be patient too, the first week or two may be a little bumpy as we all get acclimated to the new routine! The move to longer sessions was always part of our reopening strategy but was also supported in our last member survey.
One other change to be mindful of. We are going to open class reservations 25 hours in advance. As highlighted above we have a lot to squeeze into a 55 minute class. We are moving reservations one hour earlier to prevent athletes from needing to be on their phones (to reserve class for the next day) while they are at the gym and class is starting!
Let’s talk about what is in store for September!
September Programming Focus
We will be entering September looking so fresh and so CLEAN CLEAN...see what we did there? We spent (2) days a week, one volume day and one loading day, working on the Power Clean. If you’re newer to Oly Lifting, this can be a challenging movement to figure out..so we took things slow spending one day working on technical portions of the movement (volume) and the other day letting athletes toss some weight (loading) around with these new found skills!
Kicking September off it’s time to put our previous week's gains to the test. For the week of 9/7, we will establish new 2RMs. September comes with quite a few important dates, Labor Day (9/7) and a Day of Remembrance on (9/11). We are aware that both of these days fall on the same week that lines up with our 2RM retests and have planned accordingly. Labor Day (9/7) we see “Wade”, followed later in the week on Friday (9/11) we will be honoring those lost with a “9/11 Tribute” workout. Benchmark tests “Baselines I - II - III” (all with a new twist!) will be making a return in the third week of the month. We’ve designed these Baselines as measurable and repeatable tests of fitness -- going forward we will be hitting these 2x/year. This is the final time this year that we see these tests (and the first time with the new twist), but rest assured that we will continue testing these in the years to come!
A final note, we will be helping support the Ultimate Hawaiian Trail Run on Sat, 9/26 with an optional additional workout. The UHTR helps bring much needed relief to the island of Kauai in the fight against drug and alcohol addiction.
