Awesomeness 7.9.21

Congrats to Carmen for putting in the effort and seeing the results! We love having you (and your fam) at Petram!

Carmen was kind enough to share this in our FB group this morning:

“Today finally marks my six months here! I have never been one to go to the gym consistently or for longer than a month. I have made so many accomplishments and done things I never thought I would of before. Specially thankful to the coaches and the other members for pushing me to my best. I am glad that I came in six months ago even though I was scared, (because people say CrossFit is too hard and intimidating). My one goal I have always wanted to do was a pull-up! I finally hit one. Never thought it was possible! Can’t wait to see what the future brings!!”

Quick note on Scaling - from Coach Kady:

My friends - it works if you work it!

Scaling is something people often look down on. Things I hear A LOT include:

- “But I didn’t do….”

- “I had to scale…”

- “Well I can’t do that…”

But the beautiful thing about scaling is that it creates opportunities for learning movement progressions, understanding shapes and movement patterns better, and strengthening all the prequisites for a high level skill so that we don’t get injured down the road.

As a coach, there are moments EVERY WEEK where I scale a piece of my workout - and NO, I’m not afraid to admit that. I have goals around performing bigger sets, more proficient barbell cycling and becoming smoother with my higher level skills. Scaling allows me to hit stimulus and keep moving, all of which adds to the overall quality and intensity of my workouts. My confidence has increased, my movement patterns are pretty solid AND I’m fitter now than I was a year ago, and that’s the goal - keep getting better.

This post is for Rebecca Murphy. In December, squatting was really difficult for her. Knee and mobility issues held her back. Today? Almost below parallel How did she get here? SCALING. Keep working hard!

If you want to know more about WHY scaling matters, I’d love to chat.”
